The graphics, the music and the story (which I’m sure most of us will agree could be considered art) contribute massively to the making of one hell of a game.It appears the Gears of War "Mad World" advertisement has done more than just augment sales of the game. I have given three examples of art forms which were used in the making of the game. What I will say is that throughout the game there is twists and turns, character development, emotional moments and some pretty extreme violence, all of which make for one hell of a story.Īs I’ve said I do consider Gears of War a masterpiece. In the modern day I know spoilers are impossible to avoid, but I refuse to partake in that so I won’t go into detail about the story at all. The story is probably the defining factor that made Gears great. I won’t spoil the surprise for anyone but just know it is played at just at the right time and if you’re that type of player it’s a sure-fire tear-jerker. However the use of the song Mad World by Gary Jules was without a doubt the highlight of the musical input into the game. The music is just subtle enough to blend into the background as to not distract the player while also giving a very epic feel to the game as you moved through hordes of enemies. The musicians used a combination of strings and brass instruments to immerse the player in the game. The music used in Gears also contributed greatly to me labelling it a masterpiece. The graphics were technically very good and just rough enough for a genuine gritty feel. The game is very dark, there are no vibrant colours and even when you’re outside in the game it isn’t particularly bright. The came consists of crude dilapidated building and sharp edges, once again playing a huge part in setting the tone for the game. What it does very well is sets the tone perfectly for the game. Graphically the Gears series is very good. Once again the discussion is based around games as an art form, specifically G ears of War. I would consider it the closest thing to a masterpiece I have played, and it does contain art which is as good as almost any I’ve been exposed to.
